Battlefield 3 (PS3) Game Review

Battlefield 3 is the latest release of the Battlefield series. It is the true successor to Battlefield 2, with a new engine to run it (FrostBite2) which makes the gameplay smooth with fantastic effects and visualisations. The graphics are phenomenal and there is an added realism to this game over most other first person shooters. The A.I. is also much smarter and the scenery can be destroyed beyond most other games; so don't assume you're safe hiding behind a wall for long, I assure you it can disappear and you find yourself amongst a lot of rubble and under fire.

The online multiplayer is a very good experience that feels like a more advanced version of the BF2 system. The sound effects and animations increase the feeling of being in battle. This game needs to be played with strategy and some patience, this is because it is not as simple as spawning and then getting right into boosting your kill count as quickly as possible, you need to think tactics and it may take a little while longer for you to gain each kill due to map sizes and because you actually needed to aim your gun and one kill shots are rare. The online experience is increased further by the vehicles available, from running people over in humvees to dog fighting in jets. You also can play a role in your team based on the kit you choose, if you you can use your abilities to increase points and can assist your team toward victory

The weaponry is emulated on reality as much as possible, which means you need to take into account recoil and one cannot simply aim and shoot a sniper rifle in a fraction of a second and get an instant kill.

Many people will want to know which game is better, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 or Battlefield 3. The answer is not that simple. Although they are of the same genre and theme, they play very differently. I enjoy the Call of Duty games, especially if I want to just simply enter the action and kill people. However, I have been enjoying the overall atmosphere within Battlefield 3 and definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys shooting games and would like to see how clever these games have become at providing a more realistic experience.

Fujifilm FinePix JV100 Digital Camera Review

The Fujifilm FinePix JV100 is a good little camera that has a lot to offer for the money.
Only some cameras in this price range feature HD 720p recording, which this does. The recording quality looks really good, the only issue I have found recording in HD is some feedback noise. However, with some open source software on the internet this noise can be faded out if needs be. I have been using noise reduction on iMovie.
I am impressed that it comes with a lithium-ion battery because a lot of competitors still use AA batteries, which I find never last in a camera, especially when recording video.
Importantly, the picture quality is good, the zoom is reasonable but obviously not as impressive as a more expensive camera. 12mp is more than enough for the average consumer.

Gran Torino (2008) was about a grumpy, lonely old man living on a neighbourhood with foreign families and gangs. The film had aspects of violence, humour and friendship which together made it a good film. My girlfriend had watery eyes at the end and said that she really enjoyed it. This means that guys and girls can enjoy this one together.

Apple iPad Keyboard Review

The Apple iPad Keyboard Dock is essentially the same size as the keyboard you will find on the Apple Macbooks. It has chiclet style keys which are nicely spaced out and comes with some iPad functioning keys at the top, such as the home button and a lock key which are quite useful. There are also keys for media functions, volume, screen brightness, slide show, search and show/hide keyboard. Within some apps, like Pages, the command key works like it would on a Mac. For example, [command + A] for select all. It also has an audio out and an Apple plug for a charger or accessories.

This is not a cheap keyboard, but I am very pleased with it, as I have found that it basically transforms the iPad into an even more productive tool, especially for working on documents and essays. Once I had discovered this I found that the price no longer seemed to bother me.

This accessory can really help to make the iPad a more useful tool and gives you slightly less reason to use your laptop.

Paul (2011) movie review

Paul features Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, from Sean of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.

I found this film to be mildly disappointing because I really enjoyed their other movies and Paul didn't quite fall into the same league. The concept of the film I liked, but I found parts to be not as funny as it could have been.
For example, an argument about religion and the idea of evolution and creatures from outer space arose and I found this particularly funny. On the other hand the, previously religious, girl became inappropriate with respect to her language (I don't mind swearing, but it is annoying if something gets carried away). This led me to think that the film would have been better off if she only featured in the religion vs science argument, as her new discovery that it doesn't matter if you sin, made her more frustrating to watch than funny, because it was more immature based humor that I may have enjoyed at a younger age.

At the end of the day, I think I enjoyed Paul more than my girlfriend did, because I am more into the idea of aliens and science 'fiction' than she is. However, the movie was let down by some attributes, but certain comical aspects which the main actors bring are still there, so I am not totally discarding this film, but I think that it can be improved.

IMDB rates the film at 7.6/10, which I found to be a bit generous.
